Chef Matt has been cooking professionally since January of 2005. However, his career began as a child; who would try everything and rarely found
food he disliked. As early as he can remember he was shopping and
cooking dinner for the family. When he graduated High School he started
working at the Charthouse in Marina Del Rey. He left Charthouse
after 2 years to concentrate on his studies at the University of
Southern California. He graduated USC with a BS in business
with an emphasis in finance and entrepreneurship. This led him to
many jobs in the technology sector. He eventually found anything
related to technology to be cold and uncreative. Having always wanted
to find work with more intrinsic value and creativity; he decided
to follow his passion for food. He attended the California
School of Culinary Arts and graduated at the top of his class.
While in school he worked numerous catering events hosted by various caterers including
Wolfgang
Puck and Patina.
Having learned the ins and outs of the business he has been very
successful in his own catering endeavors.
Also, while in school, he began teaching at Hipcooks.
Here he learned how to engage and entertain people by sharing his
knowledge and passion for cooking. He then stared teaching privately
around Manhattan Beach and the greater Los Angeles area, as well as at a local culinary
edutainment outfit, Chefmakers.
He currently also teaches a monthly class on Sundays at Lido di Manhattan in Manhattan Beach.
Matt has worked for David Sanfield from Deluxe Motion Picture
Catering and captained events for studios, celebrities, and for
the new hot club in downtown Los Angeles, The Edison. He has also
had the pleasure of heading up events for party planning guru, Charlie
Scola (aka Party Charlie), at his famous, extravagant, Los Angeles
parties.
Chef Matt currently works as a private chef during the week but
does private parties, catering events, and cooking classes on the
weekends.
